July 2013 Trades

July 2013 trade summary statistics and comments

What a difference a month makes - almost half the number of trades were taken relative to June...
The bottom line to the account balance was still pretty good due to an improved
Winning Trade Percentage and because the majority of trades were done with
the RLM vs. the YM ($10 per tick vs. $5 per tick). Not much change in Ave. Gain/Loss per trade but significantly fewer B/E trades...

I will change the spreadsheet defaults to include a first decimal on the all the cells that are averages...(not that you can have a fractional number of trades per day)

Making this change may give a better month-over-month comparison.

Wednesday-----------------------------------

07/31/2013 ... 4/3 ... +26 or +$153

1st chart - INDU with ADV-DEC showing the reversals in sentiment today.

The next two chart sets (2 sets of 4 charts) are in a slightly different format than usual -
They show the BZ reversal areas on the higher time/frame charts on the left
(before and after the trades) and show how Brach Zone Fibonacci levels can be used as rationals for entering shorts.

Successful short trade:

Although I'm satisfied with the results of the previous YM short
it continued to run down to more than triple of what I took out...

Tuesday-----------------------------------
07/30/2013 ... 5/2 ... +34 or +$116

Took a lot of trades but mostly quick scalps...
Another fairly narrow range day in the YMU3...multi-sessions chart below:

The next two sets of charts are showing multiple entries
but am counting as a single trade...

Monday-----------------------------------

07/29/2013 ... 3/3 ... +24 or +$102

Fairly narrow range day.

The above trade...just for coulda-shoulda-wouldas

Friday-----------------------------------
07/26/2013 ... 5/4 ,,, +19 or +$183

Lots of trades today...A 'V' day in the YM ending the week slightly lower than where we started.

Jumped right back in with the histos turning up...(with a hope and a prayer)

Multi-session YM and RLM charts - mid day & EOD

and the FUTs

Thursday-----------------------------------

07/25/2013 ...3/1 ... +14 or +$86

Today's stats help the Winning percentage ratio but not so
much for the others...still an OK day netting around +$86 per contract.

Was chasing momentum down here - escaped with some damage done...
Comments on the chart should show -5 here (-$31) not -1

Price Action
and the FUTs

Wednesday-----------------------------------
07/24/2013 ... 1/1 ... +5 or +$32

A good day for short players...I'm not one of them.

-5...-$56

+10...+$96

B/E...-$6 (commish)

RLM and Adv-Dec today:

Markets overall...seems the NQ is leading, being the first to break it's channel.
The YM hit it's measured move while the ES and NQ were just short of doing so :

Tuesday-----------------------------------

07-23-2013 ... 3/1 ...+18 or +$141

Another narrow range day...

+3...+$9 (YM)

+4...+$34 (RLM)
Just guessing, anticipating the break

-1...-$16 (RLM)

+12...+$114 (RLM)
Was thinking there would be an EOD covering of short positions and it seems to have been the case... (see 240 tick chart below for the session's P/A)

RLM session start thru major market close:

Monday-----------------------------------

07/22/2013 ... 1/1 ...+11 or +$108

Not a very active day - signals were few and far in between.

-2...-$16

+13...+$124

Sideways price action

Friday-----------------------------------

07/19/2013 ... 1/2 ... +18 or  +$192

Done for the morning ...may check back in the afternoon.

-5...-$31

-1...-$11

+24...+$234

Thursday-----------------------------------
07/18/2013...no trades

Wednesday-----------------------------------

07/17/2013 ... 1/1 ... +31 or +$325

Two trades and I am calling it quits for the morning.  Stopped on the first, terrific gain on the second...Not wanting to be greedy nor give any back.
Planning to let my excitement dissipate, may look in again in the afternoon...
Ah yes, the joys of a discretionary trader.

-5...-$31 after commish...

+36...+$354 after commish...caught a real 'runner'
I often wonder if these are the type of trades I should more actively pursue -
That is, always give the trade room to move instead of taking a quick +6 or +10 ticks...
Also thinking about always entering with at least 2 contracts, taking my more normal small scalp on one of them while giving the other lots of leeway to run up big-time, like this one:

Tuesday-----------------------------------

07/16/2013 ... 0/0 ... no trades today.

Saw few good signals all day...
The RLM and YM during the major market session

FUTs 8 hour bars...rolling over

Monday-----------------------------------

07-15-2013 ... 4/0 ... +11 or +$76

Took some TLB trades, anticipating possible runs - was just lucky that none were stopped for losses.

+1...+$4

+6...+$54 Signals were not really there - luck trade

+2...+$4 playing the sling with reverse STO+hist divergence

+2...+$14

A tough day for signals....

Friday-----------------------------------

07/12/2013 ... 2/3 ... -1 or +$10

Saw few good signals today, fairly narrow ranges.
Ended the day green but not much to speak of...

+4... +$14

-4...-$26

-5...-$31

-5...-$31

+9...+$84 - This RLM trade got me out of the hole...

Here's something you don't see every day...

Thursday-----------------------------------

07/11/2013 ...0/1 ... -4 or -$26

Some days I can't focus on the market...
-4

Saw this much too late to trade it, but it illustrates perfectly
what to look for...

Wednesday-----------------------------------
07/10/2013 ... 4/4 ... +12 or $72

There's a problem recording just the ticks or points won in the post title when trading different markets.
To differentiate or illustrate more clearly I will be including the dollars won/lost per trade per single contract (with commissions considered) from now on.
Today's net was about $72, assuming only one contract per trade.
Considering that I lost as many trades as I won, today was a good day...a few 'lucky' trades didn't hurt either.

+1...+$4

+5...+$44

-5...-$56

-6...-$36

-6...-$36

+16...+$154

-6...-$66

+14...+$64

Tuesday-----------------------------------
07-09-2013 ... 1/2 ... +7

Even with only one winner the day netted OK due to
the Russell trading a@$10 per tick vs. $5 per tick in the NQ

+16

-5

-4 Really should not have taken this trade...

And the FUTs trio today

Monday-----------------------------------

07-08-2013 ... 2/0 ... +17

+1 or B/E

+16

Friday-----------------------------------
07/05/2013 ... no trades taken

Thursday-----------------------------------

07-04-2013 ... 4th of July fireworks !

I decided not to trade today because of the shortened sessions but opportunities were still presented.
Here's my Patriotic chart - the Red, White and Blue

The brackets used for the YM are -6 stop loss below entry and +15 to +18 target above.
I created a new layout last night to enable simultaneously monitoring and trading of two markets. First is a picture of my entire screen array followed by snapshots of each screen. The upper three monitors have the YM loaded in all windows with
the bottom three monitors set up similarly for the RLM.

M1...YM longer term charts

M2...YM trade charts in Red, White and Blue

M3...YM DOM order entry, Tick Stream, very short term trade chart and Quote window over Account Summary

M4...RLM longer term charts

M5...RLM trade charts

M6...RLM DOM, T&S, very short term trade chart and Completed Order window

Wednesday-----------------------------------

07-03-2013 ... 2/0 ... +11

Half day due to the 4th holiday tomorrow, have a good one.
I'll be remembering what we're celebrating - the beginnings of the
greatest country that ever existed on the earth.
God bless the USA.

Morning pattern

+6

+5...saw the slingshot and MACDh reverse divergence after I took the gain...thought about re-entering...

Paper trade

Tuesday---------------------------------------

07-02-2013 ...1/3 ... -2

Made a small adjustment to my brackets this morning.

I saw the wedge early enough to play it but wasn't sure whether it would take
3 waves or 5 to breakout...it only took 3

+16

-6

-6 same rationals as above...same result too

-6 The third time's the charm...

Relentless....like I'm in a RUT

Here's a multi-session look at the market including Friday's close, Sunday night's open (including Monday's session) up through 4:06 PM today.
The red dashed lines are set to print at 5:15 PM
(Ending the old Session (EOS) and Starting the new one (SOS)) ;^)
The green lines mark 9:30 AM when the major markets open.

Monday---------------------------------------
07-01-2013 ... 3/2... +25

Now trading the Russell 2000 emini (RLM-MU3) - it seemed to be a very quick market today. This is a new market for me but I had good results.

I use bracket orders with an initial 6 tick lower stop/loss and a 15 tick target.

These numbers worked well today, although it is a little disconcerting seeing a stop-loss filled at double what it cost compared to trading the YM with a similar stop...

I missed this one but its a great example of what I look for:

+15 ... here you can see the down trend (LHs and LLs) before the 3xD divergence suggested a possible trend change was imminent. Thus my rational for an early entry market order...i.e. buy below the point where price might break the trend line (TLB).

+6

BE on points but still have to pay $6.30 per round turn per contract.

I'm going to start considering these BE trades as losses in the message post titles from here on in.

-5 Good signals and a good entry don't always prevent getting stopped...

+9

FUTs 2 hour bars - in and out of the BZ but still positive through the major market close.

The Russell is leading the other markets having beat its BZ and approaching June's high.

Saturday 6/29/2013---------------------------------------

Futures Projection Worksheets can help you see what may need to be changed to improve your trading results. Below is a spreadsheet workbook I created to see the effects that Win/Loss ratios, Winning trade percentages, position size etc. have on your bottom line.

The formulas for the blue results cells are included if you want to duplicate the spreadsheet...(for equity traders visit my Sharpshorts Day Trading blog for the spreadsheet & formulas).
The picture shows examples using three futures markets - YM, ES and RUT.
All three worksheets are loaded with the same data in the yellow cells, with these exceptions:
Each market's minimal tick size was used in cell B4. I've adjusted cells B8 and C8 to obtain similar daily, monthly and yearly results.
